Privacy Policy

This is not legal advice.

Babelbook is operated by Nate (“we”, “us”) and is available at babelbook.net. Contact for privacy requests: pjvogl3@gmail.com.

What we collect

Account. Supabase processes sign-in. We receive a stable user id and email address, and we store them with the time you first and last used the site. If you set a password, Supabase stores the credential; we do not keep a copy in our application database. Google or Apple sign-in, when enabled, is handled by those providers and Supabase.

Content you submit. Translations, source text, terminology, Studio notes, citations, profile preferences, and files you send for image or PDF reading are stored so you can reopen them. They stay private to your account unless you create a share link. A share link lets anyone with the URL read that translation. The browser extension and Windows helper can place selected text into the translator; it is sent to our servers when you explicitly translate, listen, or save.

AI processing. When you run translation, speech, or document reading, the relevant text or file is sent to OpenAI to produce the result. Reading a saved language profile does not start that processing. We also store usage events (time, feature, size) and an estimated processing cost so credit limits and abuse controls work.

Payments. Stripe processes Plus subscriptions ($6.99 USD/month or $59 USD/year) and one-time credit packs ($2.99 USD for 200 credits) when live billing is on. We store Stripe customer, subscription, checkout, and credit-pack identifiers, plan status, and period dates. We do not store full card numbers. Stripe’s privacy policy describes how they handle payment data.

Technical data. Cloudflare hosts the site and may process IP addresses and request logs to deliver and protect it. We use a hashed account id or, for a signed-out request that still reaches a limit, a hashed IP address, for rate limits.

Analytics

Product analytics are off unless the operator sets an analytics provider in the environment. The supported choices are Cloudflare Web Analytics or Plausible. Neither is used for advertising, and we do not sell personal information. When Cloudflare Web Analytics is configured, its script records page views. When Plausible is configured, its script records page views and a short list of product events: sign-up, translation used, upgrade click, checkout started, and purchase completed. Those events do not include the text you translated. If the environment variables are unset, the scripts are not loaded. The sign-in page follows the same switch.

Why we use it, and who else sees it

We use this information to provide the product, keep accounts secure, meter credits, take payment, and understand aggregate use when analytics is on. Processors include Supabase (accounts), OpenAI (AI features you invoke), Stripe (payments), and Cloudflare (hosting and, if enabled, analytics). Plausible is an additional processor only when that provider is selected. We do not sell your Library or Studio content.

Retention and your choices

Account content remains until you delete it or delete the account, except short-lived rate-limit and billing-event rows that we prune on a schedule, and share links that remain available until you delete the underlying item. You can export or delete saved work from the account tools where those controls are offered. Email pjvogl3@gmail.com to ask about access, correction, or deletion. We may keep payment records where tax or accounting law requires it.

Depending on where you live, including under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, and any consumer privacy law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can also use your browser’s tracking controls; analytics does not run when it is not configured.

Children and changes

Babelbook is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. We may update this policy by posting a new version here. The date below changes when we do.
